New Apple TV+ Drama Series Debuts May 13
Apple TV+ released on Tuesday (26) the first trailer for “The Essex Serpent”, a drama series starring Tom Hiddleston (“Loki”) and Claire Danes (“Homeland”). In the plot, the two end up getting involved in a romance while working together to find a mystical creature.
Based on the book “The Essex Serpent”, by Sarah Perrythe plot is set in 1893 and revolves around Cora Seaborne (Danes), a young woman who leaves London for refuge in the Essex village of Aldwinter after the death of her brilliant and domineering husband. While admiring the place, she hears the intriguing rumor of a fearsome creature that roams the swamps claiming human lives.
“After nearly 300 years, the mythical Essex Serpent is said to have returned, taking the life of a young man on New Year’s Eve. A keen naturalist with no patience for superstition, Cora is immediately fascinated, and certain that what the locals think is a magical sea beast could be an as-yet-undiscovered species. Eager to investigate, she is introduced to the local vicar, William Ransome. Will is also suspicious of the rumors. But unlike Cora, this man of faith is convinced that the rumors are caused by moral panic, a flight from true belief.” says the official synopsis.
The series is directed by Clio Barnard (“Dark River”) and features a script by Anna Symon (“Deep Water”). The duo still serves as executive producers alongside Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Patrick Walters.
The adaptation of “The Essex Serpent” premieres May 13 on Apple TV+.
