It is a story of encounters and disagreements, of love and friendship that co-stars Dario GrandinettiMercedes Morán and Jorge Marrale and what matters start the dance, a co-production with Spain which premieres this Thursday. And he comes with two awards at the Malaga Film Festival: that of the public and Marrale as best supporting actor.
Carlos (Grandinetti) lives in Spain, where he settled and raised a family many years ago. He lives with his wife Elvira (Pastora Vega) and their daughter. He was a talented and successful tango dancer, and the phone call he receives from Buenos Aires shocks him.
And he decides to go back to Buenos Aires, for a few days, because Margarita is dead (moran), who was her artistic partner at the time, and something more intimate. After the funeral, Pichuquito (Marrale), a friend of the two, takes him to Margarita, who not only is not dead, but also tells him that they have had a son together, who is obviously already an adult and lives in Mendoza.
We were talking about a reunion film. Well, Margarita wants to go to Cuyo to make that meeting official.
A road movie to the rhythm of the tango
From there, start the dance it turns into some kind of street movie tango, because the three characters get into the van they used to take on their old tours and head to Mendoza.
The film is one of those productions in which performances prevail. And we will not discover the talent of the main trio here, although the role of Marral sometimes be like a companion. Likewise, there’s a revelation that comes back to the actor’s The Comoin the theatre, its place takes center stage.
Carlos, Margarita and Pichuquito are not characters that will evolve during the journey, as usually happens in all road movies, where what happens during the journey is more important than whether or not they arrive at their destination. prefix. They’re already grown up, they have their own age and ailments, and they don’t even have to keep anything to themselves.
Director Marina Seresesky, an Argentinian living in Spain, worries that each of their characters match or clash with each other’s. Carlos is a guy whose sarcasm, if not cynicism, allows him to get away with it as best he can; Margarita goes straight and Pichuquito deals with the situation he is going through with this reunion in the best possible way.
There is a lot of black humor in the film, a sharpness in the occurrences, which allow us to avoid some moments when the plot borders on the purest sentimentality. The pace doesn’t slow down and the lighting is natural, like everything that happens in the film.
