And the one who got on social media was her, on her Instagram.

These days Roman Polanski tries to find a distributor for The palace: a film shot in Italy and with an international cast: Fanny Ardant, John Cleese and Mickey Rourke. The Cannes Film Festival has refused to screen the film for fear of controversy, and now there is a possibility that it will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival next September.

Meanwhile, the figure of the controversial filmmaker has been surrounded by other surprising twists.

conversation and photos

recently the magazine Le Punto posted a conversation between Polanski’s wife, the actress Emmanuelle Seigner (with which he filmed The skin of Venus e J’accuse: The Dreyfus Affairamong others), and one of his victims, the actress and model Samantha Geimer.

Geimer was the teenager Polanski raped in 1977, when she was 13 and the director was 43. Faced with the threat of prison, Polanski fled the United States and hasn’t set foot on American soil since.

Geimer was, at the time, the spearhead of the allegations against Polanski –four other women have ensured that the director abused them when they were minors-. But over time she reconciled with him. Even confirming that she was raped, Geimer assured the media that Polanski had apologized to her in a letter and that what he suffered the most was media harassment.

In conversation with Seigner, she defended him again.

And, in collusion with the protagonist of Based on real factshe showed his rejection of the #MeToo movement that has Polanski in its sights.

“I don’t see what’s feminist about claiming victimhood,” she said, to try to qualify what has happened with the director over the years. “Let’s face it, what happened with Polanski was never a big deal for me. I didn’t even know it was illegal, that someone could be arrested for it.”

“I was fine, I’m still fine, and this matter turning into something bigger weighs heavily on me. Having to constantly repeat that it wasn’t a big deal is exhausting,” she said.

This interview was revived after a publication by Geimer on his Instagram profile, where he appears in an embrace with Polanski. There seems to have been a reconciliation, although it’s hard to believe.

Polanski was the first celebrity to be accused of raping a minor, in the house of his friend and protagonist ChinatownJack Nicholson. The Paris-born director, who spent his childhood in Poland, fled the United States in 1978 after pleading guilty to having illegal sex with a 13-year-old girl. And, you’ll recall, he couldn’t be at the Oscar ceremony twenty years ago when the Academy awarded him Best Director for The pianist.
