Radio-Canada recognized its own Tuesday night by winning five prizes at the New York Festivals Radio Awards 2022, a prestigious festival that awards the best in audio content. Journalist Michèle Ouimet and director Cédric Chabuel won gold in the Story and Documentary category for their podcast Afghan interpreter : leave or die.
Produced by Radio-Canada OHdio, the podcast examines the plight of performers from Afghanistan who have worked with the Canadian army and are trying to flee their country, between the hasty departure of American troops and the growing threat of the Taliban in the summer of 2021.
The radio theater Enoch Arden, produced by ICI Première, directed by Laurier Rajotte and hosted by Guylaine Tremblay, won silver in the Fiction category. Recall that Luc Picard took the torch from Jacques Godin, who died on October 26, 2020, to record the other work of the poet Alfred Tennyson.
René Homier-Roy, host of Culture Club and ICI Première airwaves veteran, received a bronze medal in the On-Air Personality category. Her ICI Musique colleague Catherine Pogonat also won bronze in the Best special musical programming category for La vigil des Salebarbes, a musical event directed by Alexandre Bernard.
The podcast Immersiondirected by Michel Montreuil and Daniel Martineau, also stood out thanks to the episode “ Vanuatu “, directed by Akli Aït Abdallah. The immersive audio documentary was awarded gold in the Documentary – Climate Change and Sustainability category.
Finally, the podcast toxic relationships : picture of an addiction allowed Catherine Lavoie and Yannick Chapdelaine to win a gold medal in the Personal Story Podcast category. He dissects the stages of dependent relationships based on testimonies.
