The announcement was as unexpected as it was strong: success and already classic sitcoms Argentina Married with children arrives this Wednesday 17 on the platform of Netflix.
To be from 10pm and with all 212 episodes of his two 2005–06 seasons, now split into five lots or “seasons”.
quite a phenomenon
In the first season, which ran from From 12 April to 22 December 2005 and had 137 episodes, viewers averaged 17.1 points. That figure did not satisfy the directors of Telefe e they decided to suspend it.
However, something happened that no one could have foreseen: in the summer of 2006 the first episodes began to be repeated and it was listening levels far higher than those of its original broadcast.
This forced the producers to assemble the entire cast to tape a 75-episode second season, which aired in the meantime August 14th and December 28thand averaged 21.7 rating points, with peaks of over 30.
Being an adaptation of the American sitcom Married with childrenthere was no way to do more episodes, and that was it.
Year after year the phenomenon has grown more and more, because the channel has taken advantage of the material to cover the gaps in its programming and Married with children has remained a ratings hit in each of its iterations, which extended into last year.
A particular fact is that in 2020 the cast (with the exception of Érica Rivas) performed in sketches via IGTV.
Moreover, there was a successful stage adaptation which was supposed to come out in 2020, but due to the pandemic it only came out in January 2023, with completely sold-out shows at the Teatro Gran Rex.
The cast and the story
With Guillermo Francella, Florencia Peña, Luisana Lopilato, Darío Lopilato, Érica Rivas and Marcelo De Bellis, Married with children is the story of a dysfunctional middle-class Argentine familyrun down, who fights without weapons, but with a lot of acidity, sarcasm and irony, to survive the difficulties of everyday life.
The Argentos are a family that was not used to seeing on Argentine television, as each of its members says what many think but dare not say. The family is made up of Mr and Mrs Argento with their two teenage children. They are joined by a couple of neighbors with totally opposite characteristics in Los Argento.
