Peter Brownthe British poet, performer and singer best known for writing the lyrics to several songs by Creamthe 1960s British supergroup, formed by Eric ClaptonGinger Baker and Jack Bruce, died at the age of 82 from cancer.
The death of co-author of rock classics AS Dawn of your love AND white room It was produced in London on Friday night and was released the following night, first through a post on the late bassist Jack Bruce’s official account.
The notice
“We are extremely saddened to learn of the death of friend and teammate Pete Brown who passed away last night. We extend our deepest condolences to Pete’s wife, Sheridan, and Pete’s children, as well as his entire family. and his friends. Bruce family,” reads the text on Bruce’s page.
Then there was another statement on Brown’s official page:
“Pete was famous for repeating the mantra ‘I come from a long line of thoughtful and non-warlike people.’ Another favorite of his was ‘That’s life: up in one minute and down the next 25 years.’ But despite his penchant for Jewish pessimism, he lived the life of a warrior poet, proudly anti-establishment, and dedicated his life to creative endeavors. He was also a loyal and generous friend, and a great support to many musicians at various stages of their careers.”

Brown had been brought in to Cream by drummer Ginger Baker after seeing him perform with his group First Real Poetry Band, where he would read poetry to a jazz quartet that included guitarist John McLaughlin.
In those years also the lyricist frequented literary circles with Allen Ginsberg and Gregory Corso.
After the collaboration with Cream, a band that had a short but intense life, he continued to work with Jack Bruce until the mid-70s, when he decided to leave the rock scene to devote himself to writing screenplays.
In the 80s Pete Brown returns to music with the participation as a percussionist and singer in some groups that are not very successful.
In 2010 the poet had published his memoir, in which, among other things, he gave details of his participation in Cream, and in 2017 he made his latest collaboration as a lyricist, in this case on the album newby Procol Harum.
