If it all finally comes to an end, this edition of cannes film festival has left its guests more satisfied than on recent occasions. The Palmarés this time didn’t offend anyone, there were huge presences of stars, the level of the films in competition was good to superior – with a few exceptions – and if it hadn’t been for the intermittent rain everything would have shone.

At the cinematic level, in competition there was a clear imbalance between established authors and former Cannes regulars -Ken Loach, Wim Wenders, Nanni Moretti, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Marco Bellocchio, and a new generation, with Justine Triet and Jonathan Glazer in the lead.

After the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, where Stroke anatomyby French Justine Triet won the Palme d’Or -the third time in 76 years that a director has received it-, all the guests stayed to watch Elementsthe Pixar animated film, the closing film, or they went to different parties. Damiano Szifron, who was on the jury and did not say a single word to the press, went through three. Or at least, that’s what she remembers.

In one of them, in the Plage des Palmes, there is no one who doesn’t have a glass in hand. Huge tents have been pitched on the beach, with the Mediterranean water right there, because the beaches are short. There are even huge pillows thrown on a small mound of sand, and a dance floor that by 2am was impossible to enter.

At the end of the party you can see how they are already removing the hooks that held together the fences that surrounded the Croisette, the boulevard by the sea. It was definitely the last night of the Festival, and Cannes, the city of 75,000, was back to normal.

This 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has not left many unhappy in its list of winners, as had happened in the previous two years, when they won the Palme d’Or titanby Julia Ducournau, e The triangle of sadnessby Ruben Östlund, this year a member of the jury and its president respectively.

Moments with Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford and a bus

If we review, there were a few moments that alone deserve to be on a memory list.

It all started with Johnny Depp. The star, who a year ago starred in one of his media trials with his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard, was greeted with samples of fanaticism at the opening of the Festival. And here she presented a bodriazo, Jeanne-du-Barryat the inauguration. He was adamant at the press conference that he felt boycotted by Hollywood. “No, because I don’t think about Hollywood,” he said.

The office was passed from father to daughter. Just like Johnny Depp was at the opening, and Ethan Hawke, the next day, with strange way to live, Pedro Almodóvar’s 30-minute gay western, their daughters also attended the Festival. Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Vanessa Paradis and Depp, was at the premiere of the first two episodes of the series on Monday the idoland Maya Ray Thurman-Hawke, daughter of Ethan and Uma Thurman (who was at the opening) presented City of Asteroids.

we already counted what was that party about the idolwith The Weeknd as DJ and Lily-Rose dancing with the few guests, including Clarín’s envoy.

The picture was not made too public, but seeing the director of City of Asteroids, Wes Anderson, getting to the Palais des festivals on a bus was captivating. The director did it with some of his team that made it this far, including the aforementioned Maya Hawke, as well as Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston and Adrien Brody. They left aside the official black cars of BMW – this year’s sponsor of the Festival – directly onto the red carpet.

Right there, days later, the ones who hadn’t seen each other yet The Sun of the future, by Nanni Moretti, they didn’t understand what the Italian director and his actors were making, spinning like a top on the red carpet. It has to do with the final scene of the film.

Previously, Harrison Ford received a surprise Palme d’Or on the night of the premiere of Indiana Jones and the Call of Fatein the Sala Lumière. The day after, in his meeting with the international press, the usually frugal but likeable actor of witness in danger and the Star Wars saga, he responded to a comment, rather than a question, from an Australian journalist, who still found him “hot”.

“I’ve been blessed with this body,” was the 80-year-old Ford’s response. Things that only happen in Cannes.
