After the Cannes Film Festival, like every year, one wonders which of the films screened in these twelve days of pure cinema will arrive in Argentina.
Fortunately, all the films that have won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, in the various editions, have historically been released in Argentina, in theaters or on platforms. Stroke anatomyby Justine Triet – the third filmmaker in 76 editions to receive La Palma – shouldn’t be the exception, but until now it hadn’t been acquired by any Argentine distributor.
And it is known that if the purchase of the winning film has not been negotiated before the Palmarés, the price rises up to 20% after the ceremony… However, it is not like years ago, in which the films were sold to independent distributors of each country: now what you are looking for in Latin America is to sell films by region.

Of the 21 titles in the Official Competition for the Palme d’Or, the first ones are guaranteed City of Asteroidsby Wes Anderson, with an all-star cast, by Scarlett Johansson and Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman and Edward Norton (August); may decemberby Todd Haynes, starring Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore (purchased by Netflix), e Fallen leavesby Aki Kaurismäki, who won the Jury Prize on Saturday (to be seen on the MUBI platform).
They were out of competition Indiana Jones and the Call of Fatewith Harrison Ford (June 29); The flower moon killersby Martin Scorsese, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro (in theaters in October, and two weeks later on Apple TV+); the Series the idolwith The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp (premiering next Sunday on HBO), Elementsfrom Pixar (June 15).
The medium-length film strange way to liveby Pedro Almodóvar, with Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, is visible on MUBI, on a date to be defined (it is already available in Spain).
And the Argentine co-productions will also be in Argentine cinemas. I am The criminalsby Rodrigo Moreno (the specialized medium Variety included in the list of films not to be missed); eurekaby Lisandro Alonso, with Viggo Mortensen and Chiara Mastroianni; Close your eyes, the return of the Basque Víctor Erice after 30 years, which sees in the cast Soledad Villamil, the music was composed by Federico Jusid, and is produced by Pampa Films; AND settlersby the Chilean Felipe Gálvez, with a brief participation by Luis Machín, co-produced by Rei Cine, which won the Critics Award (Fipresci), in the Un Certain Regard section.
And of course there is always the possibility that at the end of November or the beginning of December, with the Cannes Film Week, in the Sala Gaumont, the Argentine public will have access to seven titles that have passed the Official Competition, both for the Palma d ‘Gold Or as in Un Certain Regard.
The Week is already a classic, and the General Delegate of the Festival, Thierry Frémaux, is the one who selects the films and travels to Buenos Aires to present them… In addition to taking advantage, like every year, of the dinner with Damián Szifron and many others Argentinians.
