Les Luthiers begin their latest tour of Spain, ‘with more joy than sadness’

Les Luthiers, the Argentine comedy group, arrived in Spain this Tuesday May 30 to start their latest tour of the European country which will take them through 32 cities “with more joy than sadness”, despite being the last time the six interpreters will form the formation in this country.

In a press conference at the Casa de América in Madrid, the artists explained the reasons that led to the show More setbacks from Mastropiero be the last of your career decades on stage.

“This self-decided withdrawal is a preemptive declaration, we don’t feel obligated to continuebut we have the desire to face this last year with joy,” said Carlos López Puccio, one of the two founders.

puccio asked viewers not to “expect something that isn’t there” referring to the historical members of the Luthiers (Marcos Mundstock and Daniel Rabinovich) who are no longer in the group and insisted that the training material “has never been pedagogical or ideological”: “our goal has always been to entertain and amuse”.

“We have always had a strong contact with reality, within a world of parody, it would be impossible without culture, We have played all our lives with culture and the parody of ritualssaid the Argentine who, once again in a humorous tone, specified that this “is the last one because it is the most recent and also because it will be the last”.

Jorge Maronnaanother of the historical figures of the group, acknowledged that the six interpreters have “thought and imagined” the legacy they want to leave after stepping off the stage.

“For many years we thought so, an eternal luthier because that’s how it seemed to bethere were the relays, but he continued with his loyal audience, but at this point with Carlos we decided to close”, he explained.

In this line, he stressed that the formation “considers this beautiful project that has been so successful”.

“Starting next year Les Luthiers will be on networks, on records, on YouTube, on videos, but not in person“, has shared.

Maronna also hypothesized that there is a risk that each of the features on this tour “becomes a duel”but he assured that this will not be the case.

He also specified that the farewell is not due to the fact that they no longer have ideas and that the decision “to close Luthiers was not easy”.

32 latest features

The Argentine formation will perform 32 functions in Spain. This Wednesday, May 31st, they will perform for the first time in Madrid, where they will perform 24 times until June 25th.

They will then go to Seville on 27 and 28 June and Nerja (south) on 30 June and 1 July, and then stop over at Barcelona on 4, 5 and 6 July and Sant Feliu de Guíxols (northeast) in July.

The latest show revolves around an alleged interview with the creator of the Les Luthiers works, Giovanni Sebastiano Mastropierowhere a large part of the composer’s life is retraced, with musical and scenic examples, “from his first failures to his most recent”, announces the group.

Also present at today’s press conference were the rest of the current cast of Luthiers, Roberto Antier, Tomás Mayer-Wolf, Martín O’Connor and Horacio Tato Turano.
