When an actor is a good actor, he knows how to do the drama, the comedy or the script that is put in front of him. Robert Deniro He proved it, even if it is true that he had less good scripts -and consequently films- when he tackled comedy. But one must not have prejudices, e my father is dangerous it works, and well.
Also, it has to be one of the few movies where the protagonist of Taxi driver, the wild bull AND joker that kids can see, because humor is good. Suitable for all audiences.
We were talking about prejudice, and the truth is that the vast majority of his comedies – with the exception of My girlfriend’s family, with Ben Stiller- tend to be Bodriastic. It’s not the case. Perhaps De Niro is taking more than he should, but he has already explained that he has some bills to pay.
Here’s Salvo, a Chicago fashion designer who recently lost his wife. He came from Sicily, and he never tires of saying that he did everything for him, his son Sebastian (the comedian Sebastian Maniscalco, with small roles in Green book AND the Irishand co-writer of the film), until enlisting in the army and fighting in Vietnam.
Sebastian is dating another daughter of immigrants, in this case Irish, but multi-millionaires. He works in a hotel chain and his girlfriend’s family invests hundreds of millions just to renovate one.
Sebastian is waiting for the right time and place to propose to Ellie (Leslie Bibb), and wants to give her his grandmother’s wedding ring, which his father is keeping until his son “finds the right woman.”
And he’s just received an invitation from his potential in-laws, Ellie’s mother Tigger (Kim Cattrall, sex in the city AND Porky’sa little unrecognizable), who is a senator, and his father, Bill (David Rasche, Karl Muller in succession), owner of a country club. They want Sebastian to come with them to the long weekend Independence Day celebration.
When Sebastian asks his father for the ring, his father tells him he needs to look into the new in-laws.
Yes, in part De Niro repeats the character of my boyfriend’s familya, only now he is the “poor” father and not rich, but he begins to investigate the same as the rich.

It is a story about the family, in which parent/child relationships are central, and opposite: the Italian father is surly when it comes to hugs and his son has only seen him smile once in his life, and the rich hug each other each other, hugging and kissing. The dialogues are juicy, have a spark and the humorous situations are well woven and shot by director Laura Terruso.
That said, it’s a comedy without the risqué puns of other films with De Niro -apart from a male nude from behind, and not of the actor who turns 80 on August 17, there’s nothing else-.
