The film, which will feature the character Frances “Baby” Houseman, was announced at CinemaCon
After 35 years that Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray starred in the 1987 classic, “Dirty Dancing: Hot Rhythm”, the film will finally get a sequel. During CinemaCon, an exclusive event for press and movie owners, Lionsgate announced that it is developing a sequel to the novel, which will feature the character’s return. Frances “Baby” Houseman.
“Jennifer Gray Returns to Kellerman’s in Next Chapter”, announced the narrator as she showed original footage of “Dirty Dancing” during the Lionsgate panel in Las Vegas. Kellerman’s is the luxury resort in the Catskills where Baby spends a transformative summer alongside Johnny CastleSwayze’s character.
For now, there is still no information on what the “next chapter” of “Darty Dancing” will be. Information involving the script, cast and premiere date is being kept under wraps.
This will not be the first story derived from the dancing romance universe. The prelude “Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights” was released in 2004 and takes place during the Cuban revolution in 1959. In 2011, the feature also received a remake, which was considered a major failure.
The original version of “Dirty Dancing: Hot Rhythm” is directed by Emile Ardolino and tells the story of Baby, a young woman who is disappointed to discover that she will spend the summer of 1963 with her family staying at a resort in the Catskills region. She just didn’t expect to meet the resort’s dance instructor, Johnny, a guy with a very different background from hers. When they become partners on the slopes, the two end up falling in love.
