A new challenge presents itself in the life of Damian Betular (41 years old), who has been living in Spain since November.
In dialogue with Intruders (América TV, Monday to Friday at 12.30pm), the pastry chef who is recording ‘Bake off: celebrities in the oven’, which will be seen on Spanish television.
Betular which was in all versions of the Argentine edition of reality which were hosted by Paula Chaves, was enthusiastic about the proposal to become a judge in the Spanish version.
In this new work proposal, Betular will be accompanied by chef Paco Roncero, who boasts two Michelin stars in his restaurants, and by pastry chef Eva Arguiñano, sister of the renowned Karlos, chef and television host who was very popular in the nineties in Argentina.
“We are already with the recordings. “The shoot lasts 12 and 14 hours, it’s a bit long.”Betular said in dialogue with Intruders.
Regarding how he received the proposal to go and live in Spain for a few months, he said: “One day Box Fish called me, which is the same production company that makes Masterchef in Buenos Aires. It was a verbal proposal, because it is broadcast on Spanish television and things needed to be sorted out. It was the beginning of November and I had to come here on the 28th. “We’ve been here about a month and it all ends on January 15th.”
On the other hand, the renowned pastry chef acknowledged that he was surprised by the participants and that he also had difficulty not being friendly with some of the invited celebrities: “The famous people hold a masterclass every week and we often meet. They have respectbut when I saw Azúcar Moreno I couldn’t believe it; or Rocío Carrasco who wanted to ask him many things; I also saw Blas who followed him from Operación Triunfo and then to Eurovision. Incredible”.
And he also referred to idiomatic differences and the way he had to measure some very Argentine terms to be understood. “When I got there and read the script I saw it said ‘you’, or ‘you will’ and things like that, and When I had the meeting they told me to speak the way I speak, that if there is something you don’t understand, just ask. The truth is that I feel very good, there are a lot of good vibes from the work team.”
Finally, Betu confirmed that he will be present again in the next season of Masterchef Argentina with new celebrities. “There are no confirmations yet because every now and then there is Big Brother and then Survivor or another reality show arrives. “I know the celebrity edition is coming and I love it.”he assured.
The emotional words of Damián Betular referring to Wanda Nara
In another part of the interview with Intrusos, Kennys Palacios, speaker of the series, asked the pastry chef who he would choose between Wanda Nara, Paula Chaves and Paula Vázquez, the host of Cook Spain.
“Paula, over there, has a 30-year career. When Paula Chaves arrived on the program, she already had her career. But something stands out about Wanda: she had something so wonderful. Wanda did a casting to join Masterchef. She accepted at test, to many opinions which then Thank God he was able to prove that it was the program he was supposed to do.”Betu answered the uncomfortable question.
But then he added about Mauro Icardi’s wife and his experience of working with her: “I would work with Wanda a thousand times. He never had a bad mood in six months of recording. And look, it’s difficult to work with a huge team every day, but with her there was never anything. Absolute generosity and transparency. Just like Paula (Chaves).”
In the end, Damián became sensitive when he was consulted about the illness that struck the brand new winner of the Dancing for an Italian dream.
“I am touched by Wanda’s strength and generosity. I don’t want to invade him, in fact when all that happened I didn’t even want to write to him. I wrote to Kennys Palacios and he responded several days later, which is understandable, because his phone was dead. Always on the side of respect and accompaniment from a genuine place. Moreover, She had very nice words towards you when I told her I was coming to Spain. She told me ‘the Spaniards will love you’.”
