In line with the celebrations for them 35 years of experiencethe rock group La Renga The legendary Racing Stadium has arrived in the Avellaneda neighborhood, the same space that transformed into a rock cult by pure coincidence 25 years ago, when the remembered band Patricio Rey and his Redonditos de Ricota performed a musical feat within the same playing field.

Moreover, also the group formed on Saturday evening by the trident Chizzo Nápoli together with Tete and his brother Tanque Iglesias He did the same, in the same way as his predecessors, whom they had initially admired with passion.and whose steps to follow were part of the regulation.

The truth is that decades have passed and a lot of water has flowed under the bridge.

However, It’s impossible not to point out that a large part of La Renga’s audience is the legacy of Indio Solari and Skay Beilinson when they were companions, until the traumatic separation of the Redondos.

All these reasons were more than enough for the concert at Cilindro, before more than fifty thousand souls gatheredwas it a relevant event and by whom The result will undoubtedly remain in the history books of Argentine rock..

The one in La Renga was the first of the four recitals (three remain to be completed, They remain on January 9, 11 and 13) as part of its celebrations that began in northern Argentina and continued in various stadiums across the country, always in front of the crowd.

But what happened this weekend, despite the mystique of the band born in Mataderos, was nothing else.

“It“It’s going to be a great night, so we can enjoy it,” Chizzo promised and delivered, despite some sonic imbalances. Photo Martin Bonetto

On the contrary, It was a highly anticipated match for their first-class fans in Greater Buenos Aires.who practically stormed the surroundings of the Presidente Perón camp, to the amazement of the inhabitants of the neighborhood, who almost didn’t realize what was happening: well They are not used to such a mass of people, apart from the fact that there are football matches every weekend.both in that stadium and in Independiente, which is next door.

The La Renga mass

What happened in the afternoon was an almost bizarre film that demonstrated what the local rock audience is capable of generating with the help of its headline band: other buses have been added to the buses that crowded Hipólito Yrigoyen or on Avenida Belgrano from a province in the interior of the country, with indications of La Pampa, Rosario, Córdoba or San Juan.

Hundreds of street stalls offered drinks and foods of all kinds: fernet, beers, bondiola, hamburgers, choripane and even Milanese sandwiches.

Neither boring nor lazy Some neighbors on Via Colón (one of the entrances to the stadium) immediately raised the shutters of their homes, transforming them into kioskswhere glasses of fernet were paraded from side to side, as if picking mangoes.

The fact is that La Renga, almost without wanting it, ends up promoting a great business outside of its own self-management.

Moreover, there were flags at the main cornerssuch as Palaá and Berutti or in the Plaza Estela de Carlotto, adjacent to the National University of Avellaneda.

When the sun began to set it was time to enter, which involved four checkpoints until reaching the entrances. As was easy to imagine, there were some clashes with the police, which fortunately resulted in the injury of some fans, without serious consequences.

Inside it was a world apart. The grass suddenly turned into a kind of anthill, where not even a pin could enter.

The band’s supporters turned the meeting not only into a rock recital, but also into a sort of proselytizing meeting, in which chants against president Javier Milei were a constant. In addition to singing “The country is not for sale”the riskier ones included rebukes for his policies.

Even though the concert was announced for 9pm, shortly after the hour the group appeared on the enormous stage with its back to the Riachuelo.

Images of monsters and skulls were part of the scenery: They showed some figurative paintings that translate to “Aliens” and skulls above the water or between the rocks, with great colors.

At the sides there were two enormous screens on which, in addition to broadcasting a large part of the show, at certain moments moving cartoons appeared: a train, sailors on boats, a bridge similar to the Seven Bridges (an emblematic place near the stadium) and also motorcyclists, in line with the activity of the singer and guitarist, external to the band.

During the two and a half hours of the concert it was an infinite number of songs taken from much of his discographywith recognized as by your side OR Load up my rock and roll.

Chizzo Nápoli wore his signature black sleeveless t-shirt; Moreover, a bandana on his head and a pair of glasses, which he put on and took off. Tanque took care of his double-bass drum kit, while his brother Tete ran from side to side with bass in hand, even along one side of the stage.

While the sound was not adjusted perfectlywhich mattered little to his supporters in attendance.

The singer and guitarist dedicated himself to singing, but spoke very little.

“How nice to be here again. It’s going to be a great night, so we can enjoy it,” she spoke for the first time.

After a while he spoke again to summarize his tour: “With these shows we finish the tour of our album Off the grid. We thank you Grandma Nelly who took care of us throughout this journeyfrom the north, where we started, up to here”.

In another moment of chanting against the new president, Tanque beat the rhythm with the drums until Chizzo spoke again: “We are in difficult times and they resurface again, it’s the third time for them. The only way is a protective shield and, as this song says, Bloodfrost“, he expressed.

So topics like dark diamond, Timely opportunity and the great classics, divided between the end of the show and the encores, lasting about fifteen minutes. Everyone was moved Ballad of the devil and death, Unbearably alive or with the emblematic The ship of oblivionwhose lyrics launched them to recognition at the time of their performances in memory The Gallon of the Southwhich was located in the Monserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires.

The truth was, the end came talking about freedom. AND “The usualas they define their audience, accompanied them, greeting them with fervor in a formidable manner night that will remain as an indelible memory in the south of a city, near the capital.
