Adan Canto, the Mexican actor known for his characters in “Designated Survivor” and “X-Men” has died

Adam Cantothe Mexican singer and actor known for his roles in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Agent Game,” as well as in the television series “The Cleaning Lady,” he died at 42 years old.

His publicist, Jennifer Allen, told the Associated Press that Canto he died of appendiceal cancerry who had decided to keep his illness private.

“Adam had a spiritual depth that very few truly knew. Those who caught a glimpse of him were forever changed,” Allen said in a written statement. “He will be deeply missed by many people.”

Canto, born in Ciudad Acuña, in the state of Coahuila, in northern Mexico, and raised in Texas, began his career at the age of 16, when he left home to travel to Mexico City to work as a singer-songwriter. Then he tried to dedicate himself to acting and made his television debut in 2019 with the Mexican series “Estado de Gracia”. His debut in the United States occurred only in 2013, with a role in Kevin Williamson’s series “The Following”, with Kevin Bacon.

Among his most important roles is that of Vice President-elect Aaron Shore on “Designated Survivor”, that of the politician Rodrigo Lara Bonilla in the “Narcos” series and the mutant Sunspot in “X-Men: Days of Future Past”. Canto starred in Halle Berry’s directorial debut, “Bruised,” as well as “Agent Game.”

He also directed his first short film in 2014, and a second in 2020, a provocative western starring Theo Rossi.

At the time of his death, Canto played Armand Morales on the Fox series “The Cleaning Lady,” which is currently filming its third season. He was unable to participate in the production due to his illness, but hoped to rejoin the cast during the season.

Canto had a wide smile and an infectious laugh. His friends said she was also sensitive and humble, traits that could contrast with his corpulence and his defined jawline that denoted masculinity.

Kiefer Sutherland, who starred alongside Canto in “Designated Survivor,” shared a tribute on his Instagram page.

“It seems like I’ve had to post too many posts like this lately, but I am heartbroken over Adan Canto’s departure. “She was a beautiful soul,” Sutherland wrote in the caption of an image of the two on set. “As an actor, his desire to do things well, to be great and then get better, was truly impressive and he will be greatly missed. I am also heartbroken for his wife Steph and their two young children. Adam, he rests in peace.”

Canto leaves behind his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two children, Roman Alder, 3, and baby Eve Josephine, 18 months.
