Plácido Domingo, the well-known Spanish tenor and baritone, praised a work performed by Clarín who navigated behind the scenes of the mythical Teatro Colón to find the “Hidden Jewels behind the curtain.” “Don’t miss it,” he wrote on his social networks.

This is a special work conducted by journalist Judith Savloff, who takes the reader into the hidden details of Columbus: the neo-Renaissance building, the handmade mosaics, the marble, its central stained glass windows, a tour of a building that is a global emblem and one of the prides of the City of Buenos Aires.

A theater has also had a close relationship with Domingo for nearly half a century, when he first stepped on the stage of the First Coliseum.

Throughout the five decades of the relationship with Colón, we should highlight some of the artist’s memorable performances, such as La Forza del Destino, in 1972, La Fanciulla del West (1979), Otello (1981), Tosca (1982 ), Samson and Delilah (1997) and Fedora (1998), to name a few.

A wonderful and lively version of the overture in Verdi’s La forza del Destino (probably chosen because it is the first opera sung by Plácido in Colón half a century ago) began the first part, which focused on the Italian repertoire. Domingo started the applause and applause with Nemico della patria? (Andrea Chénier by Giordano) and Pietà, rispetto, amore (Macbeth by Verdi).

His colleagues shone with their versions from the aria of Elisabeth de Valois by Don Carlos (Siri) and the princess of Bouillon by Adriana Lecouvreur de Cilea (Barrientos). The first delirium of the public was unleashed by the duet Mira, d’acerbe lagrime del Trovatore de Verdi, in which Siri showed the strong flow and agility of her voice and Domingo was coupled with her character.

For Placido, 81, it was a reunion tour with former friends. “I have already made up my mind blow out the candles in front of the mirror so that 81 is 18, a new beginning in the fullness of abilities and dreams. I feel lucky in the life I have and for my family. “
