Rapper Killer Mike arrested after winning three Grammy Awards

An unusual situation occurred this Sunday at the 2024 Grammys, when the rapper The killer Mike has been arrested after sweeping the three categories in which it was nominated.

A video posted on social media by Chris Gardnerjournalist The Hollywood Reporter (THR), showed the artist, whose real name is Michael Render, handcuffed and taken to an unknown location at the Crypto.com Arena, where the 66th edition of this music industry gala was held.

THR quoted a security official at the venue as saying the rapper was arrested for a reason unrelated to the gala evening. He then quoted an LAPD spokesperson: “At approximately 4:00 p.m., an individual was arrested at Crypto.com Arena for a physical altercation“.

“The individual is currently under interrogation. I cannot confirm the individual’s identity until he is charged. The investigation is ongoing,” the same source said, according to the outlet.

Apparently, during his arrest, Killer Mike wrote a series of emoticons representing his three awards with the words “thank you God” on his X account.

Mike’s first win was for his rap performance of “Scientists & Engineers,” which also won the best rap song category. The single features Andre 3000, Future and Eryn Allen Kane. Mike also won Best Rap Album for “Michael.”

Before Sunday, the 48-year-old activist had won his last Grammy in 2003 for best rap duo or group performance for “The Whole World.”

While accepting his third award, the Atlanta rapper shouted: “It was a success! “Atlanta, it’s a sweep!”

“I made a conscious decision to make the best album in the world,” he told reporters.

He added, “I consciously decided to tell the story of a young black man growing up on the west side of Atlanta so that the world can see that our narrative is not just victimization and loss, but that we can win, we can thrive.” and we can prosper.”

As a member of Run the Jewels, Mike, along with producer El-P, produced four critically acclaimed albums. He was also an activist who spoke out against black inequality and became a strong supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders’ 2016 US presidential campaign.

The Grammy winner hosted Netflix’s “Trigger Warning with Killer Mike,” a 2019 documentary series about issues affecting the black community. He also made an emotional appeal to calm a protest against police brutality that turned violent in Atlanta.
