The legendary rock band announced a European stadium tour on Monday, which will start on May 17th in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and will conclude on August 17 in Dublin, Ireland.
The million dollar question is which musicians will make up the 2024 lineup, since in his last tour there were several dates in which the emblematic singer Brian Johnson he was replaced by himself Axl Rose.
There were also other changes in 2016: Drummer Paul Rudd has been placed under house arrest and in his place came Chris Slade, the leader of a tribute band. AND bassist Cliff Williams had announced his retirement from the stage.
The new lineup
In October last year AC/DC folded an early champion of the state in which its members were locatedwhen they gave a one-off show at the Power Trip festival.
The drummer appeared there Matt Laug (ex Alanis Morissette, Alice Cooper and Slash’s Snakepit) and former bassist of Jane’s Addiction, Chris Chaney. The guitarist also joined. Mike Campbellpreviously Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Now, with the announcement of the European tour, the group has welcomed Laug and Chaney from their official networks.
The lineup, therefore, would be: Angus Young, Brian Johnson, Stevie Young, Matt Laug and Chris Chaney.
It is unclear whether the tour Turn on of AC/DC will head to the United States after shows in Europe. It’s not even clear whether Williams and Rudd are completely out of the band or simply sitting on the sidelines during this stretch.
The previous round
The last time AC/DC toured in 2016, hearing problems forced Brian Johnson to step aside during the final leg of the tour. He was replaced by Axl Rose.
In turn, bassist Cliff Williams announced his retirement after the last show, leaving Angus Young as the last active member of the classic album lineup. Back in the dark.
“To be honest,” Williams said, “it was a very difficult tour for me. I had some health problems that I won’t bore you with the details of, and things happened to me while I was traveling, like terrible dizziness. “So I thought it was time to get out.”
However, all was not lost, for when the band reunited to record Turn on In 2020, Johnson returned to the fold thanks to new hearing aid technology.
They also made peace with the drummer at the time Back in the dark, Phil Rudd, who left the group in 2015 due to some pretty serious legal issues in New Zealand that were eventually resolved. They asked him to join the group for the recording of the album.
The return of Johnson and Rudd was enough to convince Williams to join the recording of Turn on. “It was like the old band was back together!Williams said: “It wasn’t like starting over, but as close as I could get to the band that’s been together for over 40 years. I didn’t want to lose it.”
Williams was back on stage when the group re-emerged to play the Power Trip festival, but Rudd had been replaced by Dirty Knobs drummer Matt Laug. Campbell also entered.
Currently, Laug is back for the next tour and Williams has stepped aside again. Chris Chaney will once again be the bassist.
