Mirtha Legrand (96) revealed an unpublished anecdote from 2003, when Mauricio Macri and Hugo Chávez They agreed on their schedule. Immediately afterwards, laughing and a little embarrassed, the driver said:: “Oh, the things I tell.”
In Mirtha’s night (El Trece, Saturday at 9.30pm) with Martín Menem, Silvia Fernández Barrio, Matías Bagnato and Horacio Cabak as guests, the luncheon diva recalled a hitherto unknown story of both former presidents.
It is worth remembering that, in that period, Mauricio Macri was a candidate for head of government of the city of Buenos Aires, while Hugo Chávez was president of Venezuela in his second term.
On Saturday evening Cabak asked Legrand who was the most intolerant president of criticism. Without hesitation he gave the name Fernando de la Rúa.
“It bothered him when someone criticized him for something,” Mirtha justified her response. And then she added: “The one who was there was Chávez, I interviewed him before lunch, very kind, he liked tangos.”
“He told the team he wouldn’t stay for lunch, but after the interview he tells me: ‘Look, I was so comfortable that I’ll stay'”Legrand began to tell the anecdote.
Then, he revealed what the former Argentine president’s reaction was: “Macri was there and when he heard that Chávez was there, he left the studio to go to a bowling alley, a warehouse that was on the corner of the canal and he didn’t want to go back to the studio.”
At that moment he interrupted the story to laugh and was surprised by the story he was telling: “Oh, the things I tell.”
“And (Carlos) Rottemberg, who was the producer, asked him to come back to the program because there was an empty spot,” He added.
“He didn’t want to stay… in the end he sat down and won”Mirtha told the end of that story.
Finally, he recalled the former president of Venezuela, who died in 2013: “Chávez was very kind, he said that Argentine women were the most seductive, the most beautiful, a fascinating man.”
How did Mirtha Legrand’s program go with Macri and Chávez as guests?
As the lunch diva said, the meeting took place in August 2003. Mauricio Macri had just started his political career in Argentina and Hugo Chávez was already in his second presidential term in Venezuela.
The program began with Legrand’s one-on-one interview with Chávez, without the rest of the guests.
Finally, Mirtha asked the then president of Venezuela: “Should I fire him or does he want to stay for lunch?”
“Eat here, with you? Of course!”the president responded and they had to add another chair to the “table.”
But according to Mirtha now, This addition was not liked by another guest: Mauricio Macri. In the end, after an interview with the production, the then candidate to lead the government of Buenos Aires agreed to stay in the program.
What was seen on the air was that, as he began to eat, Chávez warned Macri: “I don’t want to start a debate, but you and I have different views.”
From this and throughout the rest of the program, The conversations took place cordially between the two politicians.
