The logo projected on the large screen in the Hall shows an iconic Pixar character, from the first era and the current one: Buzz Lightyear with a truncheon in his hand. This is how the audience at the Teatro Colón is welcomed, preparing to enjoy Pixar in concert.
The company released its first film nearly 30 years ago: it was toy storyin 1995 and gave rise to countless successes and major productions.
Even if there were and are others Pixar in concert around the world (in Brussels, in Paris, in Mexico), was created specifically for the Teatro Colón.
There is a summary of each of the films – not all of them are there, but almost – and at the same time new songs are interspersed.
But the highlight, of course, is seeing the pictures of The Incredibles, Finding Nemosome toy story, Brave AND Coconut.
The Teatro Colón Academic Orchestra returns to the stage, like last year Disney 100 in concert, and its almost 70 members occupy a good part of the stage, leaving a space in the center. The conductor, Ezequiel Silberstein, is on one side, along with the first violinist, Camila Ramírez.
Silberstein is already known to Disney fans: he started with Star Wars: A New Hope in concert. And he tries on the showman costume again, but as a calm showman: he interacts with the audience and with the characters from Pixar films, such as Edna Moda, by The Incredibleswho is the one who goes from the audience to the stage and welcomes the audience.
Very soon, after the fanfare with snippets of the films that will be seen later, Sullivan and Mike Wazowski, from Monsters Inc. They arrive on stage and the Oscar winner is heard If i did not have you -the first of numerous compositions by Randy Newman that will be heard and which won the Oscar for best song-: it is the one that immediately wins the hearts of the public.
The table lamp is projected as a separator, yes, the one that appears in the presentation of every Pixar film, which represents an action and gives an animated indication of what will follow.
And what follows is barbaric: the Suite of Finding Nemo, Le FestinFrom Ratatouillethe Suite of Automobiles and one of the most emotional moments of the show, with when he loved mealso by Randy Newman, with Jessie who regrets her master who abandoned her, by toy story 2.
And the first part of the show has yet to end, with two films that are not among Pixar’s most popular: Luca AND Brave with four bagpipers included on stage.
Second part
After the break, Bob Parr, the father of The Incredibles, appears. He looks much thinner than in Brad Bird’s film. And after the Suite of the film, comes that of Intensely AND Washfrom the short film of the same name.
And get ready, because the best is coming. From the central nave of the stalls a dancer arrives, complete with colored balloons: she is coming Married lifeFrom On. And what follows is no less beautiful: I am your faithful friendFrom toy storywith Woody, Buzz and Jessie on stage, plus the suite of toy story 3 (when the characters are about to be cremated…).
Do they want more? Get ready, because not one, not two, but three songs by Coconut (remember meOscar Prize, A little crazy AND The beating of my heart).
In all cases there is a ledge on the top of the tent and rags are also placed, as in Coconutsuspended.
Pairat the end, an instrumental version of I am your faithful friendAND Nobody likes youFrom Grill.
It is estimated that, with a capacity of 2,000 spectators, 32,000 people will see Pixar in concert. Another success in just 9 days.
