The Théâtre du Nouveau Monde (TNM) decided to create its Pantheon on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of its foundation. And Quebec playwright and playwright Michel Tremblay became its first member Monday night at a ceremony organized at this Montreal theater.
With the creation of the Pantheon, TNM reaffirmed its status as a cultural institution in the service of artists and the community and a benchmark in the art of theater.explained, through a press release, Lorraine Pintal, artistic and general director of TNM.
Every year, one or another artist which marked the institution of his talent and his vision will enter the TNM Hall of Fame, according to Lorraine Pintal.
To say about Michel Tremblay that he has an extraordinary career is a small statement. It is often said about him that he is our “National Monument”, but I would like to add: he is our national treasure. Without him, Quebec would not be what it is, declared Lucien Bouchard, honorary president, at the ceremony.
This induction occurred on the sideline of the first presentation of Dear Chekhovthe new play by Michel Tremblay, on TNM, with Gilles Renaud, Anne-Marie Cadieux, Maude Guérin and Henri Chassé on stage.
Michel Tremblay, who has notably written 28 plays during his career, will celebrate his 80th birthday on June 25th.
