Even if, since Disney’s purchase of Hulu, there is less and less time left for the definitive unification between its original streaming platform and Star+ There are still a couple of months left with previews and separate projects. Looking ahead to March 2024, the latter has already announced what the entire month’s premieres will be. Highlights include the arrival of the complete Planet of the Apes saga, the launch of the Guillermo Cóppola series and Poor Things, one of the films with the most nominations at the recent Oscars.
Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favorite, The Lobster, Dogtooth and The Killing of a Sacred Deer), Poor Creatures hit theaters at the end of the year and has swept every awards show since.
With Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo, both nominated for an Oscar for best actress and best supporting actor respectively, it is one of the most relevant and best-reviewed projects of recent months.
The film is based on Alasdair Gray’s novel Poor Things and is a modernized version of Mary Shelley’s classic Frankenstein story. Here the protagonist is Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) who awakens after a brain transplant and must relearn the basics of life, from walking to eating politely. During her journey she will discover herself as a person and as a woman.
“Poor Things tells the story of Bella Baxter, a young woman who is revived by the brilliant and unorthodox Dr. Godwin Baxter. Under the Doctor’s protection, Bella is eager to learn about the world and life, which is why she runs away with Duncan Wedderburn , an astute lawyer. Free from the prejudices of the time and engaged in a dizzying adventure, Bella becomes steadfast in her resolve to defend equality and freedom,” explains the official synopsis.
Meanwhile, it will also arrive in March Star+ the series “Cóppola, the representative”, which will tell the life of Guillermo Cóppola, historic media figure and representative of Diego Maradona in his years of football glory. Starring Juan Minujín, this project can be seen on the platform starting March 15th.
Directed by Ariel Winograd and written by Emanuel Diez, the series has the approval of Cóppola, who was favorable and satisfied with the project.
“In a humorous way, the fictional series revolves around Guillermo Coppola, the coach of one of the most famous footballers in the world, who tries to balance his hectic private life with a full-time job that leads him to deal with the unusual consequences of actions of his client, whose sporting peak is quickly followed by a period of sharp decline,” explains the official synopsis of the series.
