Ricardo “El Chino” Darín (35) spoke to the Spanish media and spoke out against the measures of Javier Mileimainly indicating his intention to reform cultural organizations.
“I think we’re all worried. Well, not all. What happened is that a guy of a political color that hadn’t been seen in Argentina for a long time took power, with a sort of right-wing anarcholiberalism and populism that I don’t agree with”said the actor in conversation with GQSpain.
Then the actor, who is about to premiere the series Iron hand (Netflix, premieres March 15), He questioned the president’s measures and statements on culture.
“Suddenly They began to attack the entire world of culture as if we were parasites of the state coffers and we would take away food from starving people,” said Ricardo Darín’s son.
And he continued: “The followers of the Milei government, as they underlined, They believe that children in the north have been starving for 20 years because actors make films and theatre. I will not take bread from anyone’s mouth. Culture is a surplus system in Argentina. We can discuss whether a model like the US one is the best, but there, even if the state doesn’t put in a single cent, there are other types of incentives.”
Darín made it clear that he did not vote for Milei and underlined this “I don’t judge his ideology, but I judge the course of events.”
“He promised to lower taxes and other issues that he could agree on for a country like Argentina, with the situation we came from, and “So far he hasn’t done anything he said during the campaign.”said the boyfriend of Spanish actress Úrsula Corberó.
And he added, expressing his concern: “What scares me most are the forms and what they awaken. You can agree, but if your speech is ‘let’s kill those who think differently’, you no longer have me. It’s like ‘Money or shit, you’re with me or you’re against me.’ This is hate speech, even if it is not limited to issues such as, for example, racism. It’s an ideological question. We are countries with a history and it is dangerous to light that fuse.”
“Obviously there are a lot of things that concern me. I care about the environment, I worry about economic inequalityand Argentina is a country with crazy inequality, I’m worried about corruption… But you have to take care of yourself, don’t worry,” Darín added.
The actor and producer, who regularly collaborates with the NGO Greenpeace, also expressed his concern about climate change, something that is not on Milei’s agenda.
“There are many studies on environmental damage, especially with fracking and underwater bombs. I wish the planet did not catch fire, that humans communicated and coexisted with nature more harmoniously. “I trust the scientific judgment on climate change and global warming.”said Darín, also underlining the work carried out by the Sí Foundation, which “in Argentina creates campaigns that I love, such as the one for university residences”.
“It’s a daily job. You won’t necessarily solve someone’s life, but I celebrate those initiatives that help us empathize with others and take some kind of action about it,” analyzed El Chino Darín.
