More than four months after the death of Matthew Perryat 54 years old, details have emerged around the actor Friends. More precisely, his will.
According to a legal document obtained by the magazine People, the will indicates that most of the late actor’s assets will be placed in a trust with a legendary Hollywood connection. The document, which Perry created in 2009, notes that he wanted to leave his items in the “Alvy Singer Living Trust,” apparently named after Woody Allen’s character in Annie Sala.
His father, John Perry, and mother, Suzanne Morrison, are named as beneficiaries of the trust. Half-sister Caitlin Morrison and Rachel Dunn are also listed as beneficiaries.
Perry also indicated in his will that any children he had would not have the right to access his estate. Perry died without leaving any children.
The filing also indicates that Perry had more than $1 million in personal assets when he died, in addition to what Lisa Ferguson and Robin Ruzan had already put into the trust fund.
Ruzan, Mike Myers’ ex-wife, was the executive producer of the game show Lying celebrity in which Perry appeared in 2010.
Perry died Saturday, October 28, 2023 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 54 years old. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department said it was a “medical emergency” when they responded to a call at 4:07 p.m.
The actor’s death was later revealed to have been caused by the acute effects of ketamine in an autopsy report released in December. Drowning, coronary heart disease and the effects of buprenorphine (a drug used to treat opioid use disorder) were also listed as contributing factors in his death, which was ruled accidental.
What Matthew Perry’s autopsy says
The autopsy indicated that Perry, who was “reportedly clean for 19 months,” was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy, and his last treatment took place just “a week and a half before” his death. However, the medical examiner noted that “the ketamine present in his system at the time of death could not have come from that infusion therapy, since the half-life of ketamine is 3-4 hours or less.”
Before his death, Perry spoke openly about his struggle with addiction. In his 2022 memoir, Friends, lovers and the great terrible thingshared his journey to sobriety.
“I wanted to share when I was safe from returning to the dark side,” he said People at the time, for a cover story in 2022. “I had to wait until I was sober enough (and away from the active disease of alcoholism and addiction) to write it all down. “I was pretty sure it would help people if I did it.”
Perry was known for his role as Chandler Bing in the hit ’90s comedy, Friends. Throughout his career, he has spoken highly of the roles he and his co-stars took on, Jennifer AnistonCourteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer: great fame.
“It changed my life in every way. I joined the program when I was 24; the program ended when I was 34. It shaped my life. And it was the time of my life,” he had said.
