Unexpectedly, the Gaumont cinema has become the subject of public debate and confrontation between those who want to defend national film production and those who consider it an emblem of the oversized National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA). And, it seems, he found himself facing off against one of television’s greatest characters in President Javier Milei.
Mirtha Legrandwho before hosting his lunches and dinners on television knew how to be one of the biggest stars of the national big screen, has taken the side of those who defend the historic hall in the Congreso district of Buenos Aires.
“How much will it cost to maintain the Gaumont cinema? It’s terrible,” he began on his América Channel show Saturday night.
“I went there recently and it’s in beautiful condition, it’s a shame. And also the Film Institute thing. If there’s someone who stole, get out. This is no longer given credence,” continued La Chiqui, taking a stand on an issue that distances her from her official position, towards which she has demonstrated more than ideological sympathy.
What a great gesture it would be if Mirtha bought the Gaumont, renamed it Cine GAUMONT-LEGRAND and screened only Argentine films. A goal that would exalt her, and that would contribute to changing the bad image that Argentines have of their cultural references https://t.co/co9z7uNm1f

Political scientist Julio Burdman listened to the host’s words and launched a new proposal to resolve the future of the conflicting room.
“What a great gesture it would be for Mirtha to buy the Gaumont, rename it Cine GAUMONT-LEGRAND and screen only Argentine films. A milestone that would exalt her and help change the bad image that Argentines have their own cultural references,” wrote Burdman on his account on the social network
The proposal caught on among netizens and gained very special support: that of Javier Mile himselfi, who in the midst of his profuse activity in cyberspace decided to republish Burdman’s proposal, giving him his explicit support.
It remains to be seen whether presidential support will push the proposal forward and not just a mocking rip-off of user X. Or whether Mirtha Legrand herself will take up the challenge and offer to buy the room to ensure its operation.
