M. Emmet Walsha veteran actor who has appeared in films such as Blade Runner, only blood by the Coen brothers, and Between Knives and Secrets (Knives out) and played Dermot Mulroney’s father My best friend’s Weddingwith Julia Roberts, is dead.
His manager Sandy Joseph confirmed that he died this Tuesday, March 19, in Vermont. He was 88 years old.
In Blade RunnerIn Ridley Scott’s 1982 film, Walsh played Los Angeles Police Chief Bryant, in which Harrison Ford’s character Deckard hunted replicants. Other starring roles included that of a corrupt sheriff in the 1986 horror comedy creatures and a small role as a security guard Between knives and secretsalong with Daniel Craig, Don Johnson and Ana de Armas.
Raised in Swanton, Vermont, Walsh made his film debut in the film Alice’s Restaurantin 1969.
Walsh, of Irish descent, was born in Ogdensburg, New York, the son of Agnes Kathrine (Sullivan) and Harry Maurice Walsh, a customs agent. He grew up in a rural area of Vermont. After attending Clarkson University, he starred in the 1978 crime drama Straight timewhere he played a sadistic probation officer.
Another of his most notable roles is that of a private detective in the Coen brothers’ Blood Simple (1984), a performance which earned him the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actor in 1986. He had guest appearances in the series Home improvements, in the role of the protagonist’s father-in-law. And in the U.Sa crazy Christmas (2004) he played the role of one of the neighbors.
