Who hasn’t thought about starting a new life from scratch? Probably not like Sergio Dayan (Joaquin Furriel) who, accused of an unpayable debt, goes to Paraguay, leaving his family without warning.
The new movie Sebastian Borensztein It takes place on dates close to the attack on AMIA. Sergio passes by, and sees a solution to his problems: he disappears with the belief or certainty that he will be left for dead (even if his body is not found) and, as we said above, he will start again from scratch.
With the exception of KoblicBorensztein was dedicated to adding a good dose of humor to his films (The Die is Cast, The Odyssey of the Giles and inside too A Chinese story). In Rest in peace There are no smiles, there are no laughs, there are no reasons for joy.
Sergio was married to Estela (Griselda Siciliani), with whom he had two children, Mati and Florencia. And if we say that there were no reasons for happiness, not even at Flor’s bat mitzvah, Sergio can rest assured. There is someone who was not invited to the celebration, and it sounds like a threat.
Sergio’s problem is that he has accepted a series of loans to be able to maintain the family factory, which were granted to him by Hugo Brenner (a Gabriel Goity with a strange hairstyle), a loan shark who pushes him to return the money, or he will put end to his family. .
And well, in these circumstances, that cursed July 18, 1994 serves as an escape route for Sergio, who suffers the attack, appears among the rubble, but after being treated in the same Pasteur street, decides to head to Paraguay without notifying anyone. Nobody.
The plot becomes complicated when Estela goes to visit Brenner – who lost a family member in the terrorist attack – and he forgives her the debt… And a romantic relationship begins between the two.
Based on the novel by Martín Baintrum, Borensztein shuttles between Buenos Aires and Paraguay, where Sergio makes do by working what he can.
Furriel and Goity, awarded
Both Furriel and Goity were awarded at the recent edition of the Malaga Film Festival as best leading and supporting actor respectively. Borensztein’s hand in handling interpretations is another matter which he handles impeccably. Ricardo Darín is not on the screen, as in many of his films, but he is as a producer.
Rest in peace It is a thriller, but with touches of family drama, in which work is predominant for the protagonist, to whom he dedicates his life as much as his family. The choice of close-ups on Sergio allows us to see the stress he is undergoing, thanks also to Furriel’s interpretation.
The ending of the film is, perhaps, one of those, a little clichéd or banal, but it doesn’t take anything away from the film.
