“The Divine Comedy, from F to B”, an opera that reflects dreamy situations.
The Divine Comedy, from F to B, by Andrés Gerszenzon, with texts by Dante Alighieri and Victoria Ocampo, will open this Wednesday, May 4, at exactly 10 p.m., at the Hasta Trilce Theater. Is about a multimedia operawith image design by Gabriela Baldoni, costumes by Gabriella Gerdellics and Tatiana Sandoval in the presentation and stage direction.
The work is an independent project that originated within the framework of the 700th anniversary of Dante’s death and proposes a dialogue with Alighieri from Argentina today.
The texts – fragments of Hell, Purgatory, Paradise, Convivio and From Francesca to Beatriceby Victoria Ocampo- is combined with music from different times and places, with Dantesque resonances: medieval Italian, Claudio Monteverdi, Luciano Berio and Astor Piazzolla. Gerszenzon’s compositions are also incorporated into multi-stylistic musical dialogue.

A luxurious guide
Victoria Ocampo is the guide through Dante’s Hell, Purgatory and Paradise. This particular form of the piece alternates fragments of the original Italian text with others in Spanish as a commentary and interpretation by Victoria Ocampo, mimicking the journey from Hell to Paradise.
Singers perform the roles of Victoria Ocampo, Dante, Francesca or Beatrice and, at the same time, position themselves as part of a choir (in the manner of a Greek choir), out of dramatic action.
Soloists also appear as oppressed spiritsDesperate, they formed the long queue of curses crying while singing and singing while crying. They are mermaids, nymphs, purifying souls. They guide Dante into the bright air: Where is Beatrice? Who are these people? Faith, hope, love, what are they?
The scene includes a chamber group accompanied by singers, consisting of strings, piano, bandoneon and percussion.

The word of the director
Tatiana Sandoval, who directs the stage, explained that “Victoria Ocampo (Selene Lara) introduced us to the work of The Divine Comedy and introduced Dante (Lucas Werenkraut), who is both a writer and a character. “
“Inspired by this boundary, between writing and stage, I think of the stage as a blank canvaswhere the scenes of hell, purgatory and paradise are represented by a virtual set design with multimedia designs by artist Gabriela Baldoni, costume design by Gabriela Gerdelics and lighting design by Rodrigo Alvarado ”.
Sandoval’s charming presentation is conceived as dreamy space: a scene inhabited by verse and intertext in which Dante writes his verses, reads other poets and listens to the characters: spirits, shadows, souls, poets and muses born from his writing, but memories din.
The visual combines the movement of images into a dynamic wardrobe that sometimes blurs the human form to reflect light and images.
