Paul Schrader, director ofAmerican Gigolo and screenwriter of Taxi Driverwill receive an Honorary Golden Lion at age 79at Venice International Film Festival, held from August 31 to September 10, Mostra announced on Wednesday.
I am deeply honored, Venice is my heart lionreaction of the 75-year-old filmmaker, quoted in the festival’s press release.
Mostra’s director, Alberto Barbera, was hired for his part a New Hollywood figure who changed the imagination, aesthetics and language of American cinema since the late 1960s.
For him, Paul Schrader is one of the most important American authors of his generation, a filmmaker greatly influenced by European culture and cinema, a stubborn independent screenwriter.
As a screenwriter, Paul Schrader has worked with the greatest: Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver but also raging bull at The Last Temptation of Christ), Steven Spielberg (Formerly of the Third Kind), Brian DePalma (Obsession) o Sydney Pollack (Yakuza).
In 2021, Paul Schrader will perform at the competition in Venice The Card Countera thriller starring Oscar Isaac, but he leaves empty -handed.
