Rubén Rada’s relationship with the Argentine public began with milestones such as his participation in the BA Rock festival in 1971, his experience in 1980 with a group of jazz musicians called La Banda, and his enormous popularity in early ’80s. More than half a century of history.

Now, at the age of 78, Rubén Rada has a loyal follower who celebrates every visit he makes, whatever the reason. The good thing is he continues to do work, releasing albums and expanding his repertoire, without just being tied to hits like Yesterday I saw you, Blumana, Bad Y cha cha woman.

Now it will show Friday 6 at the Opera Orbis Theaterstart of the tour in the cities of Argentina: Saturday 7th at the Coliseo Podestá Municipal Theater in La Plata, Sunday 8th at Radio City in Mar del Plata, Thursday 12th at Quality Espacio in Córdoba and Friday 13th at La Comedia Theater in Rosario.

All of these presentations carry a title around japanwhich refers to the series of fifteen recitals he gave there for the first time in his life, at the end of 2021.

According to Rada, “There is a magazine about Latin music in Japan and it was made by the person who for many years brought all the tango artists, which since the end of World War II was the second most popular music there .And since the year ’83 he wanted to take me, but I didn’t want to go because I was enraptured between Argentina and Uruguay, where I was in good shape! ”.

-Surprisingly you don’t want to go, because you are always a traveler and an adventurer.

-I have traveled anywhere, but I don’t go there. And after the pandemic they called me to go, so I talked to the musicians and we started. We had to spend the first three days each in his room, isolated, and then always inside the social bubble. The shows are in the massive theater, with 1,200 people, all with masks.

-How’s the repertoire?

-I made songs for Totem and El Kinto, slow songs, candombe, salsa and jazz. I played it all. I even sang three or four nods and they applauded me. A complete show. bringing Latin America to Japan.

-Prepare yourself because they will call you to go.

Yes, but they won’t arrest me anymore. I came back devastated, because I first toured Spain and from there we went to Japan on a 14-hour flight. That’s why I put on this show “On the way back from Japan”, because the best thing is back. (laughs) There’s a stretch where I’ve had shows for six consecutive nights! Remarkably, working out every day strengthened my throat.

-Where do you feel more tired, physically or in the voice?

-In the body. You need to have the intelligence to finish the game and not go out cold or drink anything cold, and go to bed early. While the musicians were sipping and smoking and having fun, I was in the bedroom to do the show the other day.

“I wish I could sing with Ray Charles”

-Despite the cessation of the pandemic, you are on a stage with lots of activity and lots of invitations to sing along with other artists.

-Yes. I sang Peque, with Fito, with a lot of people. I enjoyed it so much. I ran away from him first, because the young people were singing in other keys and I was a veteran and I lowered the tone of my voice. I think only Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder keep their voices.

-Do you have any desire to sing with someone?

-Yes, but he’s dead! I wish I could have sung with Ray Charles it was the best. will do Georgia On My MindOf course. (singing it) Or Gardel, because I grew up listening to Gardel. I love him! At the age of 10 I won tango contests singing his songs.

A new album is coming soon

In this Opera show, Rada will preview some songs from her next album, Candombe with the help of my friendsa project that is the version of 11 and 6 with Fito Páez.

“It’s all – he anticipates – like The old man with La Vela Puerca, The short space where you don’t have with Pablo Milanes, The timeor Fernando Cabrera, I like with Julia Zenko patotero with Adriana Varela, and There is no mistake with Coti, … everything is made candombe “.

-How did you compile the call for visitors?

-Characters appear. My son Matías told me that everyone was calling me to record them, so why didn’t I call them? So I called Fito via his representative and Fito immediately called me to complain that I did not call him directly. What happens, as Freud said, is that desire is the desire of others. I want to be Charly or Fito, and they want to be Rada.
