Welcome to the madness of the multiverse rather than the multiverse of madness. The word game is used to try to determine where Marvel movies are going, from second to last. avengers to date, there have been jumps between different dimensions in which a character, whether it be Spider-Man or Doctor Strange, may have other characteristics than those known.

It was a wise decision to summon sam raimi to direct the new Doctor Strange film. But not because the filmmaker made the first three Spider-Man films, when the current Marvel Cinematic Universe had not yet been made.

The film’s climate borders on terror at times, more than anything when the Scarlet Witch launches her attacks, and it Doctor Strange has more points in common with Raimi’s filmography Evil Dead either Drag Me to Hell than Peter Parker’s more action adventure.

And not just because Raimi gave a small role to Bruce Campbell, Ash in the saga of Diabolical.

And it’s not because of him the script, but by Michael Waldron, who co -wrote the scripts for Lokithe Marvel series.

leafy universe

This multiverse, with parallel worlds or realities where the same character can have different versions, looks lush. Unlike the last of spider man, there is no way homewhere Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland coexist in both shots and moments, what Raimi does is confront Strange and other characters with their own darker sides.

Of course, this plot line can be followed, if the viewer wants, or directly fall into the ins and outs of a plot with so many universes –I seem to remember being mentioned by one character, America Chavez, who had 73-.

The plot, which was initially linear, has a Marvel superhero, with a lighter lock of hair, flying vertically in his red cape, his right knee raised and his arms stretched out behind him, hurting in love . Yes, like Peter Parker. Strange attended Dr.’s wedding. Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) in civilian clothes and what to look for from diversity can be seen in one shot: in a pan in two church rows, a Muslim, an African-American and a man are simultaneously squeezed. Asian.

But if Strange’s head is messed up, things get worse there in New York. A kind of octopus with only one eye (did anyone say Monsters Inc.) tries to catch a teenager with Latin features, named America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) and has two lesbian mothers, who are constantly opening up to diversity. She was the same young woman who appeared with Strange at the beginning of the screening.

In other words, the superhero with the British accent and better manners understands that he should protect her. He then learns that America can go from one universe to another without complications, but when he turns to former Avenger Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), everything will get out of hand instead of improving. to those who have not seen WandaVisionthe Marvel series, will have little trouble understanding what’s going on — or what happened—, but Wanda lives obsessed with her alternative existence and the children she created.

And only one mother, well no, not true.

So we already have demonic entities, the Scarlet Witch, Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Wong) and Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Strange’s notorious enemy, along with America and Christine. And lots of effects, and parallel jumps. The scene where Strange and America goes from one multiversal reality to another is brilliant, whether it’s painting or where the streets intersect with red light and not green, almost endless.

As always with Marvel movies, the effects and production design are remarkable. disney picture

The film has humor, it’s more, shorter than the latest Marvel movies -2 hours and 6 minutes, of course with the credits and post-credit scenes- and there’s a feeling that not only will there be more Multiverse, but that’s with Doctor Strange awhile.
