Netflix has officially renewed “Sweet Magnolias,” its original romance series, for a third season. The announcement comes just three months after the second season premiered on streaming.
According to Variety, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, brooke elliott and Heather Headley are confirmed to reprise the roles of maddie townsend, Dana Sue Sullivan and Helen Decaturrespectively, in the new episodes.
Based on the book of the same name written by Sherryl Woods, the plot is set in Serenity, South Carolina. The story follows a trio of middle-aged female friends dealing with everyday problems involving family, relationship and career.
Woods is also executive producing alongside Sheryl J. Anderson and Dan Paulson. “We are honored to embark on our third season on Netflix, and we look forward to returning to Serenity,” Paulson said in a statement.
“Sweet Magnolias” premiered on Netflix on May 19, 2020 and was renewed in July of the same year. Despite the brief renewal, the second season only reached the streaming in February 2022.
