Tracerya work by artist Giorgia Volpe inspired by Ukrainian traditions, was inaugurated on Friday at Ukraine Park, in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie borough, in Montreal.
It was designed after a citizen consultation with the Ukrainian community in the neighborhood, according to the city. It was inaugurated in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The creation, which consists of an interlacing of ribbons deployed in the manner of an open weave, is inspired by the shape of Pysanka. It is a traditional Easter egg decorated with symbols and signs and the meaning of the name write.
With its traditional bas-relief motif, Tracery evokes the notion of DNA identity through symbolism and unified vessel of Ukrainian culture in Montrealsaid artist Giorgia Volpe in a statement.
Its dynamic and open shape exposes us to a continuous movement of connection and crossing that allows us to combine the past with the present.he added.

Montréal has more than 360 works of art in its public spaces and in its municipal buildings. The oldest date is from 1809.
