Astrid-focused ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Spinoff Is In Development

“Crazy Rich Asians”, adaptation of the novel written by Kevin Kwanwill win a spin off focused in Astrid Young Teocharacter played by Gemma Chan. According to information from Deadline, the project is in the early stages and will have Jason Kimproducer of “Barry”, signing the script.

In addition to the spin-off, Warner Bros. is also developing a sequel to the film, which will have a screenplay by Amy Tang, winner of the Cannes Golden Lion for the short “Unnatural”. The plots of the two projects are connected to the events of “China Rich Girlfriend”, which has not yet been published in Brazil.

“Crazy Rich Asians” tells the story of Rachel Chu (Constance Wu), an economics professor in the United States who is dating Nick Young (Henry golding) some time ago. When Nick invites Rachel to attend his best friend’s wedding in Singapore, he forgets to let his girlfriend know that, in addition to being the heir to a huge fortune, he’s also one of the most eligible bachelors in the area. As a result, the young woman is in the crosshairs of other candidates and Nick’s mother, who disapproves of their relationship.

In the 2018 movie, astrid is Nick’s cousin and one of the most influential women in Singapore, not only because she comes from a wealthy family, but also because of her work as a model. However, all this power leaves her husband, Michael (Pierre png), annoyed and she ends up decreasing herself so as not to frustrate him.

In the spin-off, Harry Shum Jr will interpret Charlie We, Astrid’s first love. They were engaged for some time, but the character’s parents backed off the engagement as they didn’t believe Charlie would be a suitable husband for their daughter.

The two “Crazy Rich Asians” projects have yet to have their premiere dates announced.
