The recordings officially started in 2019, in New Zealand, and were resumed in 2020 after the Covid-19 pandemic. During this testing and filming period, James commented that they spent a few days in the forest of Kauai, an island located in Hawaii, so that the actors and actresses could observe how to behave and survive in that type of place.
“I took the actors on what I might call a sense-memorial odyssey”he said. “We went to Kauai. We lived in the rainforest for a few days. We cook over campfires. We drink water from the leaves. I said, ‘Okay, now we’re going to walk on a trail and I want you to observe as much as you can about how to step on the ground, how to put your hands in the right place when you go up a steep place. You’re going to have to remember that, how it felt, what it smelled like, and you’re going to have to bring it back in a relatively sterile environment.’ We have all embarked on this journey.”he explained.
