Obi-Wan Kenobi: John Williams wrote the theme for the series in two weeks

The galaxy starwars look forward to these days. In less than three weeks, fans of George Lucas -created story will once again see Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the new series Disney+. For wars more purist, there could not have been a series or film linked to legend without the sound contribution of John Williams.

It is the Oscar-winning composer’s emblematic music that is an intrinsic part of the success, both of the original films and of the present. He just needs to play a series in the galactic saga.

The work on the composition fell to British Natalie Holt, composer of the series Loki and other films such as Paddington. This classically trained violinist declared himself a fan of Williams, whom he taught as the man who noticed him with music in movies when he was young.

Interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, Holt discusses the process of his work in the series. And he confessed that Williams could not go away completely starwars. The legendary bandleader and pianist took the time to contribute music to the series.

“We didn’t collaborate, but I used his theme,” Holt explains when asked about working with Williams. “It is a pride and a joy. I’m super happy to have his signature because he’s literally my hero. “

A collaboration against the clock

Holt revealed that Williams didn’t have much time to write the theme song for the series because it was given at the last minute. “But he really wanted to write that theme because it’s just the character that he didn’t write music for in the original film. I think maybe he felt it was a way to complete that challenge.”

Williams had a short time to write the Obi-Wan theme due to scheduling conflicts. But the composer was able to deliver it, under pressure, on schedule.

“I think he had two weeks. He rode, wrote Obi’s theme and the melody, which is the title song, and then some variations on how the song can work,” he explained.

“That was the time he was able to give to the project, and it was a gift. It was perfect, and once I had that music, it kind of laid the foundation for the project. ”

The series, a discredit for Star Wars?

Disney has since focused on the productions of starwars intended for small screen -like The Mandalorian Y stupid book fettavailable on his streaming service-, Liam Neeson and other stars who worked on the legend raised their voices and did not hesitate to prove that the series is less important than the movies.
