New Star Wars Series Coming to Disney+ on May 27
The series “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, a new adventure in the “Star Wars” universe, will not be among the nominees for the Emmy 2022, even if it is successful among critics and fans.
Under Emmy rules (via Variety), a series must premiere before May 31 to compete for the categories – and if it premieres before that, but doesn’t finish its run by then, it’s necessary that broadcasters or platforms streaming make all episodes to date available on an exclusive service to TV Academy voters.
That’s because voting for the 2022 Emmys begins on June 16th and “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, in turn, debuts on Disney+ on May 27th, with its final episode airing on June 22nd.
Due to spoiler concerns, the studio is unlikely to make the chapters of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” available in advance to the Academy’s 20,000+ voters.
The 2022 Emmys take place on September 12.
ABOUT “OBI-WAN KENOBI”
Apparently, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will feature the return of Ewan McGregor (“The Impossible”) as the Jedi Master who trained Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), and years later introduced Luke Skywalker knowledge of the Force. If his participation is confirmed, it would not be a big surprise for the fans, but a reason for celebration, since McGregor brought the character to life in the saga created by George Lucasbetween episodes I and III.
The cast still has Moses Ingram (“The Queen’s Gambit”), Kumail Nanjiani (“The Eternals”), Indira Varma (“Exodus: Gods and Kings”), Rupert Friend (“Hitman: Agent 47”), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Straight Outta Compton: The Story of the NWA), Sung Kang (from the “Fast & Furious” franchise), Simone Kessel (“Reckoning: Settlement”) and Benny Safdie (“Pieces of a Woman”).
After being delayed, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” arrives on Disney+ on May 27.
