New adaptation of the classic will be directed by Aneil Karia
Oscar-winning actor Riz Ahmed (“The Sound of Silence”) has been slated to play Hamlet in a new modern version of the famous play by William Shakespeare. According to Deadline, the director Ring Karia (“Surge”) was chosen to comment on the adaptation of the classic.
“This Hamlet is about race, privilege, corruption — and [pergunta] if doing the right thing means setting fire to the old order,” stated Ahmed and Karia in an interview with the US website. “This Hamlet belongs to an Indian-British family that has paid a high personal price for its rise. It is an urgent story told in a bold way that will hold you and never let go.”
This new version of the classic will have a script signed by Michael Lessliewho signed the Macbeth starring Michael fassbender. The cast will still have Morfydd Clark (“Killer Predators”) as Ophelia and Joe alywn (“The Favourite”) as Laertes.
Ahmed also takes over the production of the project with Allie Moore, Michael Lesslie and Jim Wilson. The premiere date has not yet been announced.
