Marie Chouinard and two creations by Pina Bausch for the 25th anniversary of Danse Danse

Montreal-based company Danse Danse will celebrate its 25th anniversary with the presentation of two works created by legendary German artist Pina Bausch. The new opus of renowned Quebec choreographer Marie Chouinard is also one of the highlights of the 2022-2023 program, announced Thursday.

The season will begin on Oct. 5 with The Rite of Spring, choreographed by Pina Bausch in 1975, will be danced by approximately thirty performers from 14 countries in Africa. It is one of the most famous versions of pagan ballet composed by Igor Stravinsky in the early 20’sat century.

On earth covered with earth, male and female dancers clash, and engage in a wild and poetic struggle until the Chosen One is sacrificed.Danse Danse explains about this creation that will bring together three international companies: the Pina Bausch Foundation (Germany), the École des Sables (Senegal) and Sadler’s Wells (England).

In February, the contemporary dance company Tanztheater Wuppertal, founded by Pina Bausch in the 1970s, will perform at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier Palermo Palermoone of the major works of the German choreographer who died in 2009.
