The trilogy of films by Mariano Pensotti (script and direction) and Grupo Marea will be screened at the Museum of Latin American Art in Buenos Aires (MALBA). Is about The public (filmed in Buenos Aires), The audience (filmed in Athens) and The Public (filmed in Brussels).

Even though the movies have the same name in different languages, they are three different projects, linked to the same theme. Another striking fact is that for the first time all three will be displayed together, in the same space.

Each film, independent of the others and developing a different story, tells the story of some spectators who go to the theater and also refers to the cities in which they live. Additionally, it is the story of a play that we only know through its narratives.

The publicthe Buenos Aires piece of the trilogy, featuring performances by Pilar Gamboa, Susana PampinJuan Minujin, Lorena Vega, Agustina Munoz and Luis Ziembroowski, Among others. The film was only shown within the framework of FIBA before the pandemic.

The invisible work

In all three films, the starting point is the same: a spectator sits in their seats in the stalls before the show starts, while reading the playbill and turning off their phones. The play begins, but it is not seen. There is an ellipsis. Then, only the public is seen leaving the room once the show is over.

Apparently the work has been impressive, a very complex performance about a real event hidden in the recent history of the city. The whole audience was very mobilized at what they saw.

This way, in movies, we can see their stories within 24 hours after they watch the play and we can witness how it affects their lives. Some of the questions that arise in this situation have to do with how much they have seen their memories change and what impact a change of audience can have on a key character.

program selected

In this special MALBA activity, each viewer can choose watch one, two or all three movies throughout the three weekends where they will be available.

In addition to Mariano Pensotti (directing script and direction), Grupo Marea consists of art direction by Mariana Tirantte, music by Diego Vainer, photography directed by Soledad Rodríguez, artistic production by Florencia Wasser, and the help of direction from Agustín Gagliardi.

Meanwhile, both the director and the Group are preparing a new play to be released next year in Buenos Aires, as they tour several European festivals in the coming months, along with new material.
