The man who rose to fame with number eight is now 90. Riverito, born as Luis Roberto González Rivero, was born on May 13, 1932 and now celebrates with a figure that, while it may not match its irreplaceable “oooocho”, it is a force number.

In more than seventy years working as a reporter, Riverito popularized phrases like “fingers crossed!” Y “Happy Night, Friends”from the Crónica TV screen, in addition to the famous “oooocho” that has crossed several generations and spread like water across the world of games of chance.

His 90 years he found he was protecting himself from the still existing risks of pandemic and with his family. Her daily life is calm, shrouded only in grief at the loss of her lifelong partner, Elda Moreno, who passed away in 2019, but enjoys her son and three grandchildren.

children of immigrants

“I am hypertensive and I take medication, but nothing serious for me. Luckily, I feel fine, although now I don’t have my wife, unfortunately. But that’s the way things are,” he declared at his birthday celebration two years ago .

Son of an immigrant family and grew up in a tenement in the Almagro neighborhood, Riverito his livelihood, his passion and his place in the world can be found on the radio.

He was hired as a communicator before ISER. At just 15 years old, he amused himself by performing with the Ebe Bedrune orchestra in Richmond de Constitución and it was he who recommended him to try his luck at reading ads on Radio Callao.

That was in 1947 and Riverito’s career didn’t stop. At the time, the lottery and the pool were not part of his repertoire and the first announcement to come out of his voice from a radio was: “Going to the beach? Bring the tights” as a teenager.
