From singing in school to conquering Latin America

Born August 11, 1967 on Saragossa, northeast of Spain, at the age of thirteen he was already playing the electric guitar and later the drums. He started playing in school and as a singer and guitarist, or occasionally drummer and bassist in “amateur” groups like Apocalypse, Rebel Waltz, Entropic Process or Three Years of Pena or Glass Juice.

With drummer Juan Valdivia, he formed Heroes of Silence in 1985 and, two years later, released the mini-album “Hero of Legend”, followed by “The Sea Doesn’t Cease” (1989), which went Platinum.

Other important achievements with Héroes del Silencio were “Trails of treason” (1990), “The spirit of wine” (1993), “Flor de loto” (1994), “Avalanche” (1995), “Parasiempre” (1996) and “Strange” (1998); the latter was released after the loss of the group -Bunbury, Juan Valdivia, Pedro Andreu and Joaquín Cardiel-, as a token of gratitude to their many fans and included some songs not known until now.

His next work, “El tiempo de las cherries” (2006), was produced in collaboration with Asturian Nacho Vegas, a benchmark in independent music, and presented both successfully at Barcelona Liceo.

Although heThe Heroes met again in 2007 and taking a short tour, Bunbury always rejects a hypothetical return of the Aragonese quartet that gave him fame. He went on to “Palosanto” (2013), the most conceptual album of his career, recorded in Los Angeles, the city where he lives, and in collaboration with the band Los Santos Inocentes.

In 2014, the album tour began in Mexico and he recorded the feature film “The Longest Way”, a documentary about his tour in America, directed by Alexis Morante, the director of his music videos.

At the end of the year, “Madrid, Area 51” was released, a double CD and double DVD that was recorded live on June 29, 2014 at the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid.

His next works are “Hijos del pueblo” (2015), recorded live, and “Expectativas” (2017), his ninth studio album, which is a mixture of sounds.

In 2016 he was re -appointed Best Spanish Actor at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Before his final farewell to the stage was announced today, Burbury reported that in February he retired from the stage in September, after fulfilling its promises to Spain and the US, due to throat and breathing problems.

The decision was made after a Mexican tour in which he verified that what was “common pleasure and enjoyment has become a source of extreme pain and suffering.”
