A source close to production assures that the new season will have more cinematic coverage, and each episode will have its own treatment of a film, according to the latest chapters of BlackMirrorwhich typically runs for over an hour and boasts remarkably high production costs.

It remains to be seen if these plots manage to update at these times, since the first BlackMirror -premiered in 2011 and 2013 on British Channel 4- is interesting because they address hyperconnectivity, the dangers of social networks and contemporary technoparanoia, issues that are now part of everyday life.

The couple wasted no time: they set up a new production company, Broke and Bones. Netflix quickly invested in the new company through a mega deal in which it acquired its share of the business for five years, in the amount of which could reach $ 100 million.

However, when Brooker and Jones relinquished the House of Tomorrow, the rights to BlackMirror they remained in the hands of the parent company, Endemol, which Banijay Group acquired in the summer of 2020.

That deal effectively prevented Brooker and Jones from making more seasons of the series – remember, there’s also a movie. Bandersnatch– for Netflix to come up with a deal with Banijay, a step that for many fans was spelled out at the end of the series.

Two years ago, at the most crucial moment of the pandemic, Brooker himself sowed doubts about the future of BlackMirror when he told the British magazine RadioTimes: “Right now, I don’t know who has the guts to make up stories about surrendering societies, so I’m not doing that.”

“I’m more open to revisiting my comedic skills, so I’ve been writing scripts with the goal of making people laugh,” he added.

Now it is clear that an agreement has finally been reached. And Banijay Rights – the distribution arm of Endemol, which holds the rights to the dystopian franchise – has agreed to license its hit series on Netflix.
