Rau Ze, the Montreal soul jazz group led by singer Rose Perron, won top awards Monday night in the final of Francouvertes, a showcase competition that highlights the next generation of musicians who speaks French.
It won a $ 10,000 SiriusXM scholarship. The electrorock formation Hôte, led by Marc-André Dupaul, came in second, followed by Émile Bourgault, a young singer who won the competition with her pop rock.
The three groups gave performances at Club Soda in Montreal prior to the announcement of the final ranking, which was determined by a public vote and a jury made up of members of the music industry.
None of the finalists left the competition empty -handed: many prizes in the form of professional support (studio sessions, advertising campaigns, etc.), artistic residences or paid performances, for example, were awarded to them.
Last year, singer Étienne Coppée was the big winner of Francouvertes, with Calamine and Ambre Ciel as two other finalists.
Since its first edition in 1995, the competition has been a springboard for many French -speaking artists, including Loco Locass, Les Soeurs Boulay, Philippe Brach, Les Louanges and Lydia Képinski, for example.
