The weight of talent, or Nicolas Cage in 2 x 1

It’s like a conjunction between a parody of Nicolas Cage and a cult film about the often embarrassed actor. A film in which the interpreter of Moon spell, The legend of the lost treasure and The Rock plays itself, and it ends … like a Nicolas Cage movie.

But I’m not eating goodbye to vegasor the most recent Pigs -not released commercially in Argentina-, where it would have deserved more recognition in the recent season of awards.

Don’t.

We say, Nicolas Cage is Nicolas Cage in the plot. The man lives in hotels, he has no home of his own, he is divorced and has a teenage daughter, and he or his ex has no patience or trust in him. Lost in himself, Cage clings to a lifeline, offered by his representative (Neil Patrick Harris). And although hard to believe, the invitation of a billionaire to participate in his birthday celebration by paying him a million dollars of fiction, is based on something that happened to Francis Ford Coppola’s nephew in real life.

And there he travels, on a private flight to Spain, where Javi (Peter Pascalfrom The Mandalorian Y Wonder Woman 1984) awaits you with open arms. And certainly few like Javi know Cage’s life and career: he has some sort of museum dedicated to the actor from Birdie Y Facingand dreams too. He wants Nicolas to accept the script he wrote and star in his dream movie.

As a good action comedy, everything goes elsewhere, as Cage is captured by two CIA agents, who want him to serve as a spy for them. Apparently Javi is not a millionaire because of the olive groves he cultivates, rather he is involved in the mafia and kidnapped the daughter of the president of Catalonia. And there he was, hidden in the same mansion where the Hollywood star lived.

the weight of talent, then, will vary between Nicolas and Javi (the Chilean actor shows good timing for comedy and action) and the resentment and doubt the former has about the latter’s activities. Everything is tainted with humor, drugs and some violence by director Tom Gormican (My friends’ girlfriends2014) which, as we said at the beginning, will end up taking everyone towards the low-budget productions we’re used to starring Cage.

A separate paragraph is supposed to include “another” Nicolas Cage, who is introduced to the actor from time to time, and tries to guide him back to what he was before.

In short, yun the weight of talent fell under its own weight, not because of talent but because of Cage’s ability to make fun of himself.
