New tests for people
“Humanity will be tested by new games,” the South Korean production creator briefly explained, leaving a question in the air for fans of the series: “Is true unity between people possible?”.
In January, Netflix officially confirmed that there would be a second season and its executive director, Ted Sarandos, had previously said that the universe of The Squid Game was “just beginning”.
The series, conceived as an allegory of global capitalismis intended as the production with the most cumulative viewing time on Netflix, with 1,650,450,000 hours watched.
The platform paid in 2021 more than 21 million dollars to acquire the rights of the nine chapters of the first season, and it is estimated in the effect generated it garnered benefits over 870 million.
Besides, the squid game won three Golden Globes this year and the series became the first series in non -English language, and the first series in South Korea, which garnered four nominations for the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
In fact, its leads, Lee Jung-jae and Hoyeon Jung, were identified in the categories of best actor and actress in a dramatic series respectively.
Why there was a boom
Squid Game will have its second season in late 2023 or early 2024, according to Netflix.
the framework of the squid game mix action, horror and suspense: 456 indebted players receive a magical offer that can save them.
The prize is more than appetizing: 45.6 billion won (about 40 million US dollars) to be shared with the winners. But no one warned them about the small and evil letters of its organizers: the loser dies.
In the first episode, everyone is playing Red Light, Green Light, a game similar to English hide-and-seek (here it’s called “1, 2, 3, Cigarette 43”), but even more frightening: the participant keeps moving when you have to stay still, it is shot to death.
And this is how half are “out of competition” after the first game. Among the survivors is the protagonist of the story, Seong Gi-hun (Jung-jae Lee), a gambling addict, divorced and with a daughter, who is hard to sympathize with, but at heart has a noble heart.
If there’s one thing that characterizes most of these desperate players, it’s a lack of camaraderie. And it is clear that, immersed in a dynamics of “every man for himself”, everyone ends up showing their difficulties.
different inspirations

visible the squid gameinevitably think of a recent South Korean production as parasites, the Oscar -winning film which also resulted in a disgusting framework crossed by class issues being taken to the extreme.
Another inevitable reference is George Orwell and his emblematic novel 1984. Like that book that speaks of an omnipresent state built from widespread surveillance and social repression, in this story also there is a kind of Kuya who constantly monitors everything. That is why the series can be seen as a social and political critique of the current world.
