The story is a kind of continuation of the 90’s series, which had the two squirrels solving mysteries. But now the tone of the film is different. Years later, the story has a lot of acid humor and makes several provocations to other films.

mixing animation and live action“Tico e Teco: Defenders of the Law” doesn’t miss the opportunity to make fun of recent movies like “Cats” and even iconic Disney characters like Peter Pan.

Below we list several of these moments. Check out:

  • UGLY SONIC

When the first trailer for “Sonic: The Movie” was released in 2019, fans reacted on the internet criticizing the poor look of the blue hedgehog. The character was redone and the result pleased everyone. The rejected “Ugly Sonic” – as he is called in the film – makes an important participation in “Tico e Teco” and has his redemption.

  • CHARACTERS IN DECAY

Several iconic Disney characters appear as decaying figures in the film, becoming embroiled in a piracy scheme. There’s Lumiére, from “Beauty and the Beast” (photo), Baloo, from “The Mowgli – the Boy Wolf”, and even the duo He-Man and Skeleton, who participate in fan fairs.

  • PETER PAN AS VILLAIN

In “Tico e Teco”, as well as several other iconic Disney characters, Peter Pan grew up and was ostracized. He is introduced as the piracy boss and villain of the film. Adult life is not easy.

  • PETER PAN’S HUNCH

If it’s bad for some, imagine for Coca-Cola’s Polar Bear who became nothing less than Peter Pan’s henchman.

  • ALVIN AND THE SQUIRRELS AS COMPETITORS

The trio of chipmunks are Tico and Teco’s biggest competitors: they also won a TV series and came out ahead with movies, having released four titles between 2007 and 2015.

  • REBOOTS, REMAKES AND CROSSOVERS

“Tico e Teco” does not miss the opportunity to make fun of the reboots, remakes and crossovers, a trend in recent cinema. In one scene, Tico walks past posters of a new version of “A Nearly Perfect Babysitter” with Meryl Streep, and titled “A Nearly Perfect Babysitter”; a sequel to “Fast and Furious” with babies; a crossover between ET and Batman titled “ET vs Batman”; and an adaptation of the musical “Les Miserables” as part of the Lego franchise.
  • BAD CGI
Publicity/Universal Pictures

The bad CGI of recent movies like “Cats” and “Polar Express” hasn’t escaped the mockery either. The cats of “Cats” became a joke because of the dubious special effects, even appearing literally in the film, and in another scene Teco quotes “‘Polar Express’ eyes“, referencing the 2004 film with motion capture and animated characters, which left a lot to be desired.
  • LICENSED PRODUCTS
“Tico e Teco” even has its “criticism of capitalism” moment and its tendency to transform everything that is successful into products. At one point, we see in Tico’s freezer some “Looney Tunes” nuggets, and at another moment a Shrek liquid soap appears in a factory that melts the plastic of the licensees that run aground on the shelves.
ABOUT “TICO AND TECO: DEFENDERS OF THE LAW”

In the story, Teco (Andy Samberg) lives off his past success to maintain his fame in the present, while Tico (John Mulaney) is an insurance broker. However, one phone call can change everything and bring back one of the most beloved detective duos in the world.

THE reboot from the classic 90’s animated series has John Mulaney and Andy Samberg to star in the title roles with Seth Rogen making a special appearance. Akiva Schaffer is the director. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand of “How I Met Your Mother” wrote the screenplay.
