Directed by Brett Morgen, the feature will make its debut at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival
The new documentary about the journey of David Bowie in the music world, “Moonage Daydream”, had its first official trailer released this Monday (23), showing an unprecedented collection of the singer. Under the direction of the director of “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck”, Brett Morgenthe feature film is expected to make its debut at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
The film promises to take viewers on an “immersive” journey through “sublime and kaleidoscopic images, personal archive footage, unseen performances” that are anchored by music and words of bowie. Watch the trailer:
In the documentary, the voice of “Under Pressure” speaks off-camera about the importance of life. “It’s what you do in life that’s important, not how much time you have”he says as a montage of performance clips spanning his 50-year career and other behind-the-scenes footage follow in the background.
“Moonage Daydream” is the first feature to be supported by the David Bowie Estate, which awarded the morgen Unprecedented access to your collection. Press material says the estate presented the director with more than five million assets in 2017. Among them were rare and never-before-seen drawings, recordings, films and diaries.
For the documentary, the sound team, which includes a long-time collaborator from bowiefriend and music producer Tony Viscontias well as the Oscar-winning sound mixer Paul Massey (“Bohemian Rhapsody”), which remixed and translated the original tracks from bowie for a theatrical environment.
The premiere of “Moonage Daydream” will take place this Monday (23), at the Cannes Film Festival. The film is expected to be released in 2023 on HBO and HBO Max. As for cinemas, nothing has been confirmed yet.
