Netflix has set Phil Abraham as director of the pilot episode of the spy series starring the veteran Arnold Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro (“Top Gun: Maverick”).
He began his career as a cinematographer on “The Sopranos,” where he received four Emmy nominations. In addition, he has directed episodes of some of the top TV productions of recent years, including “Daredevil”, “The Walking Dead”, “Ozark”, “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”, “Orange is the New Black”, “Bates Motel” and others.
According to Deadline, the first season will have eight episodes. In the list are also: Travis Van Winkle (“You”), Gabriel Luna (“Terminator: Dark Fate”), Fortune Feimster (“The Mindy Project”), Jay Baruchel (“Robocop”), Milan Carter (“Warped!”), Fabiana Udenio (“Jane the Virgin”), Barbara Eve Harris (“Station 19”), Aparna Brielle (“AP Bio”) and Andy Buckley (“The Office”).
In the series, still untitled, when a father (Schwarzenegger) and daughter (Barbarian) discover that they worked undercover as CIA agents for years, realize their entire relationship has been a lie, and don’t really know each other.
The two, however, are forced to come together as partners, thus showing a universal family dynamic in a global setting of spies, fantastical action and humor.
Nick Santorafrom Prime Video’s “Reacher” series, will serve as head producer and screenwriter.
