Today is the day I knew was coming, but I hope it doesn’t just come. But that’s life: and while we’ve inevitably learned from the final chapter of the third season of This is Us, the light of one of the middle couple’s two characters will soon die out, and with it one of the best series of modern times. Because that is life.

A Chronicle of a Death Predictedthe Dan Fogelman series is so powerful that we know in the beginning that the other main protagonist, Jack, the almost perfect father, will die.

But there is no need to warn here warning cracked trip because one of the virtues of the series is show the cards from the beginning and from there to form an almost seamless story, into a universe that is temporarily expanding.

jump in time

Throughout the six seasons, it drives us to travel through various leaps between the ’50s and some time into the future, we believe more or less around 2030. This is not science fiction : one of the gifts to the viewer is this time turner. allowing observation how the Pearson family tree was built, erected and will be erected.

Who wouldn’t want to be able to weave their own family pieces like this, understanding the reasons and trying to minimize mistakes? The thing is This is us Not this not more or less in the story of a family, and there was the half court goal scored by Fogelman. This is a family where everything happens, yes, but everything can happen in any family.

Early and unexpected death the weight of image, discrimination, addiction, disability, warexile, unexplained reasons for love, adoption, marital strife, violence (and its frequent consequences) …

And we can move on: feeling moldless, the expectations we place on our children and the need to please what we believe are expectations of our parentsmistakes and forgiveness, the inevitable ruin of old age, the redemption of a second chance …

human bond

certainly, the complexity of human bonds refers to the long list of beautiful themes that This is us approaching from a responsive look, without editorialization. And that is why it is impossible seems to be asked in some (or some or many) moments of the series.

And it is also impossible not to sink. Allow me a personal comment: of the 106 episodes so far, only one hasn’t brought tears to my eyes.

From glaring eyes to finish crying uncontrollably Alone in my room-to the point that one of my children came in to ask me if I was okay-I went through all the stages. There were chapters that I thought I would win, but the knock out came at the last minute.

But in the same way that it stimulates crying, the emotional roller coaster can lead you to outright laughter. Because This is Us is not a sad series. It is a yin and yang. Back, like life.

Those who have followed the Pearson family dramas and fun so far have not been spectators: of us. “I’m not ready to say goodbye to this good group,” my brother posted a few days ago.

Since two weeks ago our WhatsApp chat is a duel of Jack, Rebecca, their three children and that universe of beautiful second characters. And that feeling passes through the other fans I see, on the networks or even in the corridors of this newsroom: that we have already seen the best series we will ever see in our lives.

Surely we can debate forever what is the best series in historythey will definitely argue that there are better series and I will definitely share that one of the series presented to me by another fan of the series or fan of the series is the best in history.

But This is us This is the best series in my history. And hopefully there is another producer with talent, sensitivity and intuition to give me a second chance and, as my favorite character, I can find my Miguel after Jack.

NdR: The final chapter of This is Us will air this Tuesday, March 24 in the United States. In Latin America it will be seen by Star + on Thursday 26.
