Stéphanie and Mélanie Boulay describe the new song as their better dance for lifebut also their darker existential. The title moves away from the piano and guitars that the duo’s previous albums provide with assumed pop and electronic sound.

In September 2020, the Boulay brothers announced that they were taking an indefinite break to rest and retreat.

The past few months, plagued by waves of denunciation and crisis within our former teams, have been right about our physical and mental health.they wrote then, having recently parted ways with the label Dare To Care – now Bravo music – despite allegations of sexual misconduct against Bernard Adamus.

This professional break also coincided with the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Quebec, a time that we are paralyzed in silence and lonelinessexplanation of the duo, who only released one song, Antigonesince releasing his last album in 2019.

That time […] has almost killed our profession and our love of it, but it has also become a fertile space for creative freedom, for the search for identity and art, for beauty itself.

The title The lights in the sky was recorded with Montreal songwriter and producer Connor Seidel, where the Boulay brothers worked on the collective album 1969which pays tribute to people in the 60s and 70s.
